Falcon Ridge – Bird of Prey Centre

Falcon Ridge – Bird of Prey Centre

Hubby and I finally managed to see the flight displays at Falcon Ridge – a rehabilitation centre for birds of prey.  Every time we’ve been to the Central Drakensberg the Centre has been closed due to bad weather.  On our trip last week, we decided to forego a morning walk in the Berg and visit Falcon Ridge instead.

It was amazing !!  The dedication by Greg and Alison in rehabilitating these beautiful raptors is praise worthy indeed!

The pathway to the lawned area where the display is held leads passed some of the raptors’ cages …

…. which included a couple of Spotted Eagle Owls …

… a Black Eagle …

… a pair of Crowned Eagles …

… a Fish Eagle with damaged wing …

This hand-reared Peregrine Falcon sits under a tree squawking a greeting to everyone who passes by …

Breathtaking view over Champagne Valley way down below with mountains of Central Drakensburg beyond …

In future blogs, I will feature some of the raptors and their displays … sooo watch this space !!!!
