Amongst my Mum’s recipe books

Amongst my Mum’s recipe books

This is a page from a very well used recipe book from Tennyson Primary School, Bulawayo, Rhodesia (my older brother and I were founder pupils of the school).  The recipe book was compiled for school fundraising and all the Mum’s submitted a recipe or two ….

I don’t know how that meringue recipe worked …  I use 2 teaspoons of boiling water with 2 teaspoon vinegar, 8 oz castor sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder and I add a teaspoon of vanilla … oven temp is also high – mine is 120 for 15 min then I turn it down !!  I hope everyone didn’t curse my Mum when hers didn’t work !!!   or maybe it does .. but I will be sticking to mine .. sorry Mum !

But this is all by the way as …..  my post is about this fascinating recipe book I found – also a book filled with recipes submitted by women in Bulawayo, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe now) …

A little humour for the last page …. 🙂

This is the back page …. !!!!!   note – it’s Egypt depicted here … my Dad fought in the Second World and one of the places he was stationed was Egypt …

And lastly .. a note/photo to show my children …. I had one of these stoves when we first got married!!!  Oh yes, I did !!   It cost us $3 (Rhodesian) (nearly 40 years ago!!)  from the Railways second-hand stores – worked like a bomb !!  I still have the little grilling pan !
