Our dearest friend Carol : 1949 – 2017

Very special times … so many years filled with wonderful memories

It came as a shock to us to learn a few months ago that our dearest and closest friend Carol had a cancerous tumour.  After a successful op to remove it she began chemo.  Speaking to her on Skype a few weeks ago, she was looking so well and positive that all would be well.  Sadly she passed away two weeks ago.   I still find it hard to believe that she has gone.  It happened so quickly.  We were chatting, laughing, drinking wine (all on Skype 😉 ) about two weeks prior to her passing.

Carol’s memorial was on Friday and unfortunately, and sadly, my hubby and I were unable to go.   Ray and Carol relocated to Mossel Bay about a year ago and our planned holiday down to the Cape in November includes a few days with them.  The plan still stands but we will miss Carol’s beautiful smile and twinkle in her eye so very much.  She had a heart filled with love and compassion.   She had a beautiful soul.  We both shared much laughter, and tears, over the years.  A few months before my Mum passed away she came with me to the Frail Care and held my Mum’s hand.  I will never forget it.

Both hubby and I are left with so many special and unforgettable memories of the last 20 years we’ve known each other.  I spent the weekend going through all my photographs, from printed to digital picking out ‘ Carol and Ray ‘ memories.  Photographs of special times we’ve spent together.  Weekends away, lunches and dinners.  Birthdays and special occasions.  Chilling and chatting, laughing and crying.  They often joined our family Christmases (Carol always wore her Christmas dangly earrings :))  – and New Year lunches

She was always well groomed and her hair was perfect!  Not a hair out of place!  Always !  On our holidays she would never leave her room until she had make up on and hair styled to perfection!  She was a beautiful women.  Small delicate hands I always envied.  Ray and Carol came with me to see my Mum a few months before she passed away.  I will never forget how gently she held my Mum’s hand.

And then there were Ray and Carol’s beloved dogs, Beau, Nelson and little Scruffy (Scwuffy as I used to call him, as did Bradley when he was a toddler) They were Carol’s children

My favourite photo of Ray and Carol at The Blue Peter in Bloubergstrand where we ate fish and chips washed down with plenty of wine and beer while watching the sun set over the Bay and Robben Island

Rest in peace and free from pain my dearest friend.  You are with your beloved sister Pat, your Dad (whom we never met) and your lovely Mum, and not forgetting your precious Beau, Nelson and Scwuffy in God’s magnificent garden

Love you and miss you so very much xxxxxx
