Skywatch Friday :
Johannesburg was abuzz on Monday … everyone was looking skyward for a couple of hours in the morning. I took these photos from my lawn in the garden at around 10.30 am. Some said it was a Sun dog … and others said it was a 22 deg sun halo .. whatever it was .. it was spectacular !!! I have done nothing to enhance the colours whatsoever .. this is how it was at that moment !

Wow, you captured great moment.
Have a nice weekend.
amazing! i haven’t seen anything like this!
From all the photos I have seen I must say it truly must have been a sight to behold.
Amazing shots. Not seen anything like this before.
I’m so glad you saw it … it’s truly gorgeous just as it is. Nice shot.
Wow! Great photos! I’ve seen a similar halo before, but never even close to this bright.
Thanks!
absolutely beautiful…
Have just spoken to Nick and he said that water vapour at that altitude will be ice because temperatures will be below zero. So it will be the sun shining through ice crystals. ♥
That is absolutely great!
I think it’s a 22º halo. I’ve seen and photographed is two times, but not half as beautiful as yours.
Awesome photos, I’ve never seen anything like it!! All the best from Anette in Norway 🙂
LOVE the double halo that you caught, I didn’t see that one at all.
I’ve never seen such a sight before! I read Helen’s comment & that makes sense as to what is going on! It’s so gorgeous & incredible – Incredibly shot, too!!!
Amazing. What causes it – is it some sort of eclipse?
Beautiful -you were there at the right time to take the pic!
Wow! How special to get to see that. Great photos!!
