Quick pic .. ‘Bridge of locks’

Crossing over the Seine on the Pont de L’Archevêché the bridge railings are covered in padlocks or love locks!!  The bridge railings are FULL!!  Other bridge railings have now been targeted with love locks by ‘sweethearts to symbolize their everlasting love’  🙂  Once locked in place, the keys are thrown into the river where they can never be recovered .. hence their love is sealed forever 🙂

Origin of love padlocks :  there are various explanations .. but I like this story which ‘ dates back to before World War II in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia, when a schoolmistress, Nada, fell in love with a Serbian officer named Relja.  After they committed to each other, Relja went to war in Greece and fell in love with a local woman in Corfu.  As a result, Relja and Nada broke off their engagement.  She never recovered from that devastating blow and died as a result of her unfortunate love

Young girls from Vrnjacka Banja wanted to protect their own loves, and started writing down their names, together with the names of their loved ones, on padlocks and affixed them to the railings of the bridge where Relja and Nada used to meet.’

Having been inside Notre Dame, changing settings on my camera, and forgetting to change back to normal settings, these were all over exposed – I had to adjust them quite a bit .. pity … but I didn’t want to leave them out of my ‘photography-journey-through-France’
