Château de Chenonceau, Loire Valley

Château de Chenonceau, Loire Valley

It’s like walking into a large book fairytale book !!  As you open the cover of the book,  an avenue of plane trees lies before you …

..  a river flows under the bridge ..

… children feed ducks on the river bank ..

.. and the story unfolds ..

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a ‘romantic pleasure palace,  created from the Renaissance onwards by a series of aristocratic women.’

Our story begins in the Château’s 16th century farm and vegetable and flower garden,  covering more than a hectare and tended by 10 gardeners and 2 florists providing all the flowers for the flower arrangements in each room of the Château

A low knee-high row of what looked like apples ..

Gorgeous kiddies playhouse attached to one of the houses ..

Largest dovecote I’ve ever seen ..

A Gourmet restaurant is not far from the farm  ..

.. where one of our fellow travellers sat and had a delicious light meal served with a chilled glass of champagne ..

I spotted a sundial on the side of one of the buildings .. unread for many years, I’m sure because of the large trees close by ..

There is also a wax works museum, which we didn’t enter

.. we were keen to move forward.   Our fairytale ‘castle’ awaits …

Our story continues .. next post 🙂

  1. I loved Chateaux Chenonceau. You’re loved that walk up to it also, it was so dreamy. I loved the little village. Can’t wait to see your post about the Chateaux. Thanks for sharing!
