Paris : Palace of Versailles part 2

Paris : Palace of Versailles part 2

… continued from previous post …

Louis XVI (1754-1793), the grandson of Louis XV, was married to Marie Antoinette, who stood on the balcony next to this window to watch a rioting mob of thousands chanting for the downfall of the monarchy.  Can you imagine this entire area crammed with angry men and women!!!  The women began the march from Paris, in 1789, to air their grievances over the high price and scarcity of bread, but were soon joined by thousands of revolutionaries …

Not sure what room this was .. we walked through the Hall of Mirrors more than once, thus my sense of direction went haywire 🙂  .. pretty room anyway, with the blue wallpaper ..

Table set for the king and special guests .. also watched by courtiers !!  If memory serves me correctly, Veronique said that the courtiers had to taste the food first in case it was poisoned

Magnificent tapestry on the wall ..

Restoration of rooms and ceilings are on-going ..

I love fireplaces ..

Down the marble staircase and into the stunning gardens ..

A previous post has the gardens featured .. in July last year .. gosh I’ve been doing this for that long!!!!   Please visit …  .. cannot possibly leave out the statues etc 🙂  …

PS: I have read almost every post on your adventure even though I didn’t comment
