A weekend in the Midlands
Hubby and I, with Elaine and Bryan, went to the Midlands, Kwa Zulu Natal last weekend. It’s about a 4 hour trip from Johannesburg. Not the best weekend weather wise, as it rained lightly the whole time until Sunday morning when blue skies peeped through the clouds.
We drove through a terrific thunderstorm in the region of the Northern Drakensberg, on the way down ..
The Midlands was stunning!! Emerald green and lush !! We stayed at Jolo Guest Farm, which has two self catering chalets overlooking green hills with the Mooi River running through the property. It was so peaceful .. a perfect get-away if you’re looking for some ‘chill-time’ and/or a spot of shopping for local arts and crafts. The whole area around Nottingham Road is known as the Midlands Meander where there are B&B’s, country hotels and restaurants, arts and crafts. Random pics through the Midlands Meander ..
Yummy free-range scrambled eggs topped with herbs on home-made health bread toasted for brekkies at Cafe Bloom ..
Practising for their wedding day ?????? 🙂 🙂 🙂
This Pointer took a liking to me and fell asleep sitting upright with his head on my knee .. cute hey ? !!
We will definitely return 🙂

I love KZN – especially the Midlands area. Assegay, where my Dad lives, is similar and is at the bottom of the Valley of 1000 Hills – also very pretty with interesting shops! Such a peaceful place!
The Midlands is beautiful but one of those areas in South Africa I’ve never been to. We’re thinking of returning to camp in the Drakensberg at the end of the year but I’m starting to think that perhaps I should investigate the Midlands.
It’s certainly worth a visit – the scenery is stunning! We didn’t have time to see all there was to see – you need much more than a weekend .. or keep going back .. we will be doing.
Beautiful pictures as always!
I can’t believe there’s such a lovely gem just a few hours away. I showed my hubby the pictures and he thought it was the British midlands 🙂
Yes Mrs FF.. it’s beautiful !! Very much like English countryside – mist rolls in too (at least it did when we were there)
