Our Cape visit … Meiringspoort and Robinson Pass
From our very pleasant stopover at the Olive Grove Guest Farm, near Beaufort West, on our recent trip to the Cape, we motored along the N12 toward the Swartberg Mountains and Oudtshoorn beyond. From Oudtshoorn we followed the R328 taking in the magnificent views along the Robinson Pass, down to Mossel Bay then followed the M2 to Hermanus, where we stayed with hubby’s sister and BIL for a few days ..
Swartberg range in the distance ..
Meiringspoort Pass, a World Heritage Site, is a winding 25 kilometres road along the floor of the gorge through the souring cliffs of the Swartberg Mountains, crossing the Groot River 25 times
Perfect place to change to my wide-angled lens 🙂 I found that although I got more mountain in, it lost the height perspective .. these mountains were really high!!!!
We stopped at the Waterfall Information site – the temperature had dropped from upper 20 degree C to 16 degree C !! .. and it was drizzling
We were very impressed with the layout and the cleanliness of the whole area including the toilets. I walked a little way along the pathway towards the waterfall but not knowing how far it was, I turned back as hubby was keen to get moving again. Knowing my luck it was probably just around the corner 🙁
Without the wide-angle lens I would not have been able to get this in one shot

Robinson Pass over the Outeniqua Mountains is usually shrouded in mists and light rain, as was the case when we drove along it. The road is magnificent with sweeping curves and superb views. Because of the light rain, I couldn’t get any decent photos except this one from the summit when hubby stopped. There weren’t any decent spots to stop the car, except for this one
Next stop .. Hermanus

Meiringspoort is absolutely stunning. Drove through there a couple years ago and loved it. The mrs is thinking about entering the Meiringspoort half marathon later in the year and will probably try to drag me with her. I don’t know how to tell you but you were nearly at the waterfall. It wasn’t much further.
The Robertson Pass is also beautiful but unfortunately it doesn’t have the kind of places to pull over like the Outeniqua Pass has. Pity
Oh no, I knew it … I had a feeling I was close to the waterfall !! Half marathon would be amazing through there !
