Caesar’s Forum : Rome
Hubby and I were up and out early the next morning to make our way to the Ancient City of Rome. First stop …. the Colosseum. But first to marvel at the Forum of Caesar en route and alongside Via dei Fori Imperiali which leads to the Colosseum ..
Julius Caesar built the first Imperial Fora to relieve congestion in the Roman Forum when Rome’s population boomed. “Pride of place went to a temple dedicated in 46 BC to Venus Genetrix (Venus the Ancestor – goddess of motherhood and domesticity)as Caesar claimed to be descended from the goddess. The temple contained statues of Caesar and Cleopatra as well as of Venus, but all that remains today is a platform and three Corinthian columns. The Forum was once enclosed by a double colonnade, under which was sheltered a row of shops. However, this burned down in AD 80 and was rebuilt by Domitian and Trajan. Trajan also added the Basilica Argentaria. which became an important financial exchange, as well as shops and a heated public lavatory. ”
I’m not sure whether this area further along the street is part of Caesar’s Forum or part of the Roman Forum … equally as interesting and enthralling nonetheless (we walked around the Roman Forum later in the day, but not around this area as we had seen it from this point) ..
Next stop … Rome’s greatest amphitheatre, the Colosseum, commissioned by Emperor Vespasian in AD 72 ..

Never been to Rome – must put it on my list of places to visit!

If I fly somewhere, anywhere in the world, this is one of the places I would visit….
If I go to visit Rome it would be for the history. Its hard to grasp history this old when you live in a young country like us. Wish we would look after our history and heritage as well as they do with their ancient history.
I am always fascinated by the old countries…I loved visiting Israel because of the history.
