Capri .. on the Isle of …
Quite frankly, I much preferred the town of Positano but I’m glad I can say ” I’ve been to the Isle of Capri”. The cruise along part of it’s coastline was spectacular .. truly beautiful!! But … having said that, hubby and I, and our tour group, didn’t go up to Anacapri, which looking at a friend’s photographs, is a beautiful village or comune as it’s called – completely separate from the town of Capri. Soooo … if we ever venture back to the island, we would do the chair-lift up to Anacapri. That’s a definite ! (.. and see the Blue Grotto 😉 ) ‘Ana’ meaning ‘up’ or ‘above’ signifies Anacapri is located at a higher elevation on the island than Capri – about 150m higher
A funicular takes you from the Marina Grande up to the town of Capri ..
An unassuming building: the plaque is more elaborate than the building – Arcucci’s Palace built in 14th century – difficult to get a good pic ..
Capri’s orange coral …
It’s beautiful !!! I’m not an ‘orange’ person but it’s quite stunning !
Carthusia : I Profumi di Capri
So the legend goes … ‘the Father Priory of the Carthusian Monastery discovered a new perfume when tossing out flowers. Soon after, he teamed up with a chemist to create a fragrance to pay homage to this beautiful island. Today, the legacy continues with Carthusian’s finely crafted fragrance line. ‘
Another regret .. I didn’t go inside 🙁 🙁 🙁
Giardini di Augusto : Garden of Augustus
Top of Via Krupp .. a pathway snaking down the side of the cliff …
Spectacular views from the gardens !! Where we had sailed earlier .. Faraglioni Rocks
Marina Piccola …
Via Krupp .. built in 1902 … snaking down nearly 4000ft!
Making our way back downhill to town, we couldn’t resist deliciously icy lemon and orange slushes ..
.. back through the town … waited for space on the funicular .. and then sat at the Marina Grande for lunch before catching the ferry back to Sorrento
Tourist traps, these restaurants!!! They know you have to wait for the ferry and they know you’re hungry and thirsty so they charge the earth!!! I stood back to take a pic as the waiter who served us (at the one with the red and white awning) wanted a hefty tip for taking a photograph!
A quick pic of the pebble beach before catching the ferry. The entrance was guarded by a paypoint so I didn’t venture further than a few steps in case I’d have to pay. I didn’t even dare bend down to pick up a few pebbles 🙁 !!
Next stops .. inlaid wood-working and 18th cent olive oil mill
