Sadness … and wine tasting in the Cape
Oh my .. big sigh …. it’s always extremely sad spending time with my Mum 🙁 Every time I see her she’s thinner than the last time. Her heart keeps pumping, steady and strong but the rest of her body has wasted away
She would appreciate that we go wine tasting afterwards, as we often do. She enjoyed her life to the fullest. There weren’t enough years for her to do more
Soooo, we picked up Kathy and off we went. We had no plan, strangely enough, as we always have a plan!! We’ve ‘done’ lots of wine estates but we needed to try one we hadn’t been to before
L’Avenir in Stellenbosch has a beautiful setting, so what better way to enjoy a day in the Cape wine district than sip wine, breathe fresh air and take in all the surroundings. It wasn’t the best of sunshiny days .. rather chilly and drizzly but that doesn’t put a dampener on visits to the Cape when you’ve got good wines and magnificent scenery all around
Wine tasting room …
My dear sister in law sporting her new-look hairstyle, going through chemo (for the second time round), warming up with a cup of coffee. Always smiling, always positive .. inspirational and strong xxx
There is a lovely B&B Country Lodge on the property. We had to have a look-see
A huge charcoal sketch of Nelson Mandela hangs in the foyer. On his face are subtle drawings of typical Cape scenes
We had a fabulous light lunch at The Farmers Kitchen situated at Mooiberge Strawberry Farm on the R44. Yummmmm!! Well worth a stop!! And … from Oct to end Dec you can pick baskets full of strawberries (weekends only unless during Dec school holidays)
We shared a scrumptious lunch on the deck overlooking the strawberry fields dotted with their infamous scarecrows and the Stellenbosch mountains. Yay, the sun shone too !
Next time …. Another full day of spending precious time with my Mum, wine tasting and lunch in Franschhoek and enjoying the company of special people 🙂
