Wine tasting and lunch at Idiom Wines

Wine tasting and lunch at Idiom Wines

How can one not do a spot of wine tasting when in the Cape Winelands !!!!!

It was 6 years ago, in the October of 2011, that Jeanette and I flew down to Somerset West for Jeanette’s photo shoot with my sister in law Kathy who at that time was a survivor of breast cancer.  Jeanette took the most incredible photographs here, amongst the boulders and vineyards of Idiom Wines.  I had heard about the wine tasting and restaurant now built on the same spot but had not had the opportunity to experience it during my visits to my Mum in the Frail Care in Somerset West.

Sunday, being a bit mizz, cloudy and chilly, Daniella and Ray (my gorgeous niece and nephew) and I decided a wine tasting followed by a lunch was the order of the day and what better place than Idiom Wines

Crouching Angel by South African sculptor Anton Smit ..

On a clear day the view is amazing !!!  (as it was 6 years ago )

I enjoyed the Viogner 2014, Sangiovese 2013 and Cape Blend 2009

2008 Bordeaux Blend was superb !!!!

The Restaurant is “Italian-inspired with a la carte Italian and South African inspired dishes and regional pizza menu”    The menu looked incredible but we decided on a light lunch.

I don’t usually take piccies of butter but this was worth a photo – wine infused butter mixed with other goodies (I cannot remember what!)

Ray had a thin based pizza which he said was yummy !

Daniella and I had an ‘antipasto for two’ which was amazing !!!

After lunch and more wine (!!!)  a walkabout the fairly new indigenous garden.  I don’t know when the wine tasting venue started but the restaurant opened in June last year hence the new garden layout.   All very pretty with the most stunning views over the Strand and Gordon’s Bay .. (on a clear day naturally!)

Low cloud brought a fine drizzle which unfortunately didn’t last long.  The Western Cape is in the grips of the most dreadful drought …

Hubby and I will be in Somerset West again at the beginning of November.  I think a revisit for hubby to experience Idiom Wines is a good plan 🙂
