Lunch under oaks at Rust en Vrede, Stellenbosch

Following on from my last post, we made our way back to Stellenbosch from Franschhoek to Rust en Vrede, one of our favourite wine estates.   Having the estate’s sirloin steak lunch served with salad, chips and a glass of their delicious Syrah was a must for Gavin and Kathy who had experienced this deliciousness two years ago when they accompanied us for the same.    Link to my blogpost for more stories and photos from their 2016 visit :

Hubby and I more often than not have a lunch there during our visits to Somerset West, as we did with my niece Daniella in Oct/Nov last year .. a post on that occasion is still to be uploaded in a catch-up series of our holiday.

Not to confuse these last two Rust en Vrede visits, herewith is our latest which I see most pics are taken with my cell phone (quite disappointing actually .. I didn’t consider my personal blog, only Facebook)

Sooooo .. enough rambling … a brief look at our lunch on the deck under huge oak trees at Rust en Vrede which was established in 1694

Not one pic taken of our meal 🙁  Kathy did the honours, to show her daughters back home in the UK.

Coffee is served with ultra sweet koeksisters .. Kathy’s absolute favourite treat (or maybe one of them 😉  when coming to South Africa.  Our waiter kindly gave her a small plate full of these miniscule South African syrupy sweet.  And I might add … hers were not for sharing !!!!!!!!

Hard to beat this setting – blue skies, mountains and vineyards   …

Despite the devastating drought in the Cape this summer, grapes looked good …

Lesson learnt … always consider taking photos for ‘Musings with Coffee’ 🙂
